STUDENT LEADERSHIP IN FYE & SIT:
First Year Experience & Students in Transition is one of the biggest providers of student leadership opportunities at UMD. Each year we work with more than 275 student leaders, who are a vital part of our programs and services. All leadership positions in FYE & SIT require a 2.5 minimum GPA. Applications and interviews are required for all positions; leadership positions are competitive.
Advisement & Registration Student Advisor

The Opportunity: If you enjoy working with new students and helping them to get ready for their first term at UMD, this position may be for you. In this role representing UMD, you help welcome students who have been admitted to UMD, answer their questions, and help them to register for their first term of courses at UMD. This involves teaching the registration system, helping to choose courses in some cases, and helping students craft a good first term schedule.
Who is Eligible: We will be looking for students who have attended UMD for at least one year and have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Student Advisors also must be free at least two afternoons per week from 1:00-4:00 during the spring term. The application process begins in early November.
Application Timeline: Please stop by the FYE & SIT Office at 60 Solon Campus Center in early November for more information and application. Students will be interviewed and notified of hiring decisions by mid-December for training and work in the spring term.
For More Information: Contact Megan Perry-Spears, Program Coordinator for First Year Experience. Email mpspears@d.umn.edu, call 218-726-8524 or stop by 60 Solon Campus Center.
