STUDENT LEADERSHIP IN FYE & SIT:
First Year Experience & Students in Transition is one of the biggest providers of student leadership opportunities at UMD. Each year we work with more than 275 student leaders, who are a vital part of our programs and services. All leadership positions in FYE & SIT require a 2.5 minimum GPA. Applications and interviews are required for all positions; leadership positions are competitive.
Bulldog Welcome Week Rockstar (Student Leader)

The Opportunity:UMD undergrad students who want to provide leadership in the UMD community and would like to help welcome new students to UMD, build community, and help new students get oriented to campus, this is the position for you! This new position was wildly successful during the inaugural 2008 Welcome Week & Bulldog Bash. As a Rockstar, you will have a small group of students to welcome, provide advise, and support their getting familiar with campus. You will eat meals with them and go to required events with your Rock Group. On the Wednesday before Bulldog Welcome Week, Rockstars are provided leadership training, education about student transitions and student development theory, information about campus resources, and given guidelines for Rock Group meetings. Rockstars provide the staffing for the whole weekend's events from helping with Move-In, to the College Welcomes, to the evening entertainment events, to the final events on the afternoon and evening of Labor Day.
Who is Eligible: Rockstars need to be enrolled for the fall term and be in good academic standing.If you are chosen for this position, you will be enrolled in a one-credit summer Leadership Practicum course. Upon successful completion of the course, the course will be paid for by a scholarship with a $150 stipend award. All course work and leadership practice will done during the training and Bulldog Welcome Week Program.
