First Year Experience & Students in Transition is one of the biggest providers of student leadership opportunities at UMD. Each year we work with more than 275 student leaders, who are a vital part of our programs and services. All leadership positions in FYE & SIT require a 2.5 minimum GPA. Teaching Assistants for SSP 1000: Introduction to College Learning (ICL) Course



The Opportunity: Duties and responsibilities include working with the ICL instructor as a team to teach the ICL class. There are three hours a week of work commitment to prep, go to class, and meet with the instructor for planning curriculum. Teaching Assistants are expected to be good role models to students both in and outside the classroom, and to provide a welcoming and nurturing environment to the new students.

Who is Eligible: All students with a good knowledge of UMD resources, good organizational and time management skills, strong listening and public-speaking skills. Students are eligible to apply in the freshman year or beyond. Students must successfully complete a 1-credit training course the spring semester before they begin as an ICL TA. Preference is given to those who have taken the ICL course.

Application Timeline: Applications for fall-semester ICL TA positions are available in early November of the prior academic year. Interviews are held and selections are made prior to Winter Break.
