UMD Theatre: The Foreigner
Marshall Performing Arts Center
The UMD Theatre program is housed within the School of Fine Arts. The
Foreigner by Larry Shue is the story of a guest named Charlie in a
rural Georgia resort-style fishing lodge. Charlie, who is so
pathologically shy that he is unable to speak. As a way of
explanation, his companion Froggy claims Charlie doesn't understand a
word of English. Before long, Charlie finds himself privy to assorted
secrets and scandals discussed freely in his presence by other
visitors making comedy out of chaos.
