Information and Event Descriptions

Ticket Pick Up

Tickets for the Vista Cruise will be sold in SCC 60 on a date to be determined, from noon to 1:30 p.m. or until sold out. Cost - $5/person!!! Only 150 tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

Parking

During Parents and Family Weekend, parking is available in Pay Lot G and all maroon lots are free after 6:30 p.m. on Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday; no overnight parking is allowed. Overnight parking is allowed at any of the meters, as meters are not enforced from 6:30 p.m. on Friday until 8:00 a.m. Monday. All parking in the lots surrounding the residence halls and apartments is by permit only and is enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information view a campus map online.

See the city of Duluth and its beautiful harbor from the water. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided as well as live entertainment.

Board the Vista Star at 4:30 p.m. and get settled for a 5:00 departure.

During October, the historic ore boat William A. Irvin transforms itself into a floating ghost ship. Minnesota's most famous Halloween attraction is not for the faint of heart!

Purchase your tickets at the William A. Irvin Ship in Canal Park. Tours leave continuously beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Adults: $10

30-60-90 Student Success Roadmap

Nearly all students who enter higher education have the goal of completing a college degree in four years, yet nationally, only a quarter do so. This workshop will introduce parents to key benchmarks on the road to graduation. Presented by Mary Keenan, Co-facilitator of UMD’s Graduation Rate Initiative.

UMD's Alcohol Policy & ARE

Lauretta Perry - UMD's Health Educator will help you better understand the advanced communication between the city of Duluth, UMD, and the parents of UMD students with violations. Great question and answer session on how we're helping students with at UMD.

Importance of Academic Activities Outside the Classroom

This workshop will provide students with an understanding of why it is important to participate in academic activities outside of the classroom, especially the value of joining various academic clubs. In addition, parents will learn about rewarding research opportunities and a mentoring program that provides students with job shadowing, job/career questions, and professional networking. Presented by Tracey Bolen, Director of the Student Affairs Office for the Labovitz School of Business & Economics.

Is This Going to Be On the Test? Academic Success Skills

An academic success skills presentation by Matt Jackson of the Supportive Services Program at UMD. Success in college classrooms often requires students to become an active participants to their own learning process - to shift from being a "listener" to a "doer". Occasionally this transition proves to be a challenge for newer students. This multimedia presentation aims to provide parents with an understanding of the obstacles their students may be facing, and the campus resources available for assistance.
