Green, Matsch, & Ojakangas

Penny Morton organized the first of several anticipated regional gatherings of alumni and friends of the Geology Department (now known as Department of Geological Sciences) to honor the department’s three retired or retiring faculty, John Green, Charlie Matsch, and Dick Ojakangas, and to introduce our two new faculty, Christina Gallup and John Swenson. Over sixty people joined the reception at the architecturally awesome interior of a building occupied by Summit Envirosolutions in Bandana Square, St. Paul. Liz (Metzen,85) Peterson, Dan Barrett, 85, and Bruce Johnson of Summit Envirosolutions were especially helpful and supportive in making the evening a huge success, part of which is attributable to the wonderful atmosphere of the events location, thanks to the generosity of Summit Envirosolutions John Dustman.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the attending faculty (besides those mentioned above, Ron Morton, Erik Brown, and Tim Holst were there) alumni and friends to catch up and reminisce about shared experiences, all the while partaking of the bountiful array of food and beverages. A special and distinguished speaker, Herr Dr. Professor Director Wolfgang Von Schlummerklutz(aka OJ) provided an inspiring update on his latest research on panzerenkotklotzen (aka armored mud balls), the results of which were enthusiastically endorsed by frequent verbal outbursts from the keenly stimulated audience.
