Past president of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, the Association for Field Archaeology, and the Society for Archaeological Sciences. Thirty-seven years of major geoarchaeological and archaeological excavation and survey around the world. Major surveys include Messenia (Greece) [as associate director]; Anyang (China)[as co-director]; major excavations include Nichoria (Greece)[as associate director];Tel Michal (Israel)[as archaeometric director]; Sotira Kaminoudhia (Cyprus) [as co-director]. Major geomorphic change studies include Thermopylae, Navarino, and Nikopolis (Greece) and Ancient Carthage (Tunisia). geologic explorations to locate the buried capital of the Shang Dynasty (China) [all as director]; American director of the American/Chinese project at Anyang, China; Co-director of the Egyptian Eastern Desert Project.
