Math & Science Graduate Fellows in K-12 Education

Fellow: Kate Niedzielski, M.S. graduate fellow in Mathematics and Statistics
Teacher: Kevin Brenner, Cloquet High School, 10-12 grade Math

Kevin and Kate worked with the Probability and Statistics course for 10th graders, Algebra Lab for 10th graders, and College Algebra and Trigonometry for 11-12th graders.  One of the major accomplishments that we feel we have made is developing a unit on modeling for the College Algebra and Trigonometry course. This unit deals with modeling using polynomial functions (mainly quadratic and cubic equations), power functions, exponential functions, and log functions. Kate developed the unit and worksheets based on Kevin’s need for more “What is this used for?” examples in a very traditional mathematics curriculum.
