2009 Northeast Regional Science Fair

Cindy Welsh, a 2008-2009 GK-12 teacher mentor, is the coordinator of Minnesota's NE Regional Science Fair which was held on the University of Minnesota Duluth's campus on Februrary 7th, 2009. Her fellow, Jack Lyon's help a great deal in organizing the fair which provides a venue for middle and high school students to present the results of research projects they have worked on over the year.

This year, 5 current and one past fellow were able to volunteer as judges at the fair. We applaud their efforts to support the junior and senior high school students who put so much effort into thier science fair projects. Thanks to Jack Lyons, Dan Costello, Andrea Johnson, Bryan Freyberg, Seth Slettendahl, Greg Rohde and Brian Kram (back from last year!)

2008 and 2009 Habor City High School field trips to Death Valley National Park

Margie Menzies, a 2008-2009 GK-12 teacerh mentor, lead two field trips over their school's January break to Death Valley National Park to give her students a full immersion, hands-on experience of geology. The fellows that participated, Sally Goodman in 2008 and Brice Hansen in 2009, provided extra emphasis on the scientific and ecological aspects of what students were seeing in the amazing geologic landscape of Death Valley.
