Math & Science Graduate Fellows in K-12 Education
This innovative program provides graduate students in Mathematics, Geological Sciences, Chemistry and Biological Sciences with education and training to:
- become better communicators of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) knowledge
- successfully work with K-12 teachers and students;
- gain skills in working with public and non-technical audiences.
Fellows work with UMD faculty and K-12 teachers to define and meet the needs for improving STEM teaching. Fellows use their expertise and interests to collaborate with K-12 teachers, participate in K-12 classrooms, and create a variety of innovative, inquiry-based STEM exercises and projects.
Applications for Academic year 2009-2010 are now closed.
Who May Apply for Academic year 2010-2011:
Students who have been accepted into, and are enrolled in, one of the biology, geological sciences, chemistry or mathematics graduate programs at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Fall, 2009 may apply for this fellowship. The K-12 school partners for our program serve a large population of Native Americans students. We encourage Native Americans and people from other underrepresented populations to apply for this fellowship to serve as role models for students who may be inspired to pursue advanced studies in science and mathematics.

All prospective fellows must apply and be accepted into one of the participating graduate programs before recieving the fellowship. Students who are currently in their first year of graduate school are encouraged to apply for this fellowship for participation during their second year. However, applications are welcomed from graduate students at any stage in their graduate program. For information and program application procedures see the related links:
