This is a view of the boathouse taken March 31, 1995. There are still several more weeks to go before ice out in the harbor this year. Far off on the horizon, barely visible as a bump on the ice-cover, the coast guard cutter mackinaw breaks ice so that the great lakes shipping season can begin.
This is one of the few permanent structures of this type remaining on lake superior. Most have been destroyed by storms and ice damage.
The boat house is landlocked now and will remain so.
