Other Programs and Opportunities
- Iron Range/UMD Graduate Engineering Program - UMD Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin announced the formation of the Iron Range/UMD Graduate Engineering Education Program. The new Program is offered by the UMD Swenson College of Science and Engineering in cooperation with the Arrowhead University Consortium. This graduate program has received financial support from the Iron Range Higher Education Committee. Classes are set to begin in September 2009 at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia and will be taught by UMD faculty. Iron Range students will also have access to related courses offered on the UMD campus and to ITV and on-line courses.
- Large Lake Observatory - the
LLO uses an integrated systems approach to study large lakes and to
collaborate with more biologically oriented programs at other limnological
centers in the United States and abroad. Students may pursue graduate
studies with LLO faculty through already existing M.S. And Ph.D. programs
in Geological Sciences, the Physics M.S. program, or through a new M.S.
and Ph.D. Program in Water Resources Science.
- Math & Science Graduate Fellowships in K-12 Education - a National
Science Foundation-funded program linking students in certain UMD
graduate programs to K-12 teachers to improve teaching of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics in K-12 classrooms.
- Minnesota Sea Grant - a partnership between the University of Minnesota Graduate School, the Federal Government, the State of Minnesota, and various Minnesota industries. It is a statewide enterprise, and one of 29 programs in coastal ocean and Great Lake states that make up the National Sea Grant Program.
