University Honors is looking for the most highly motivated students in all disciplines at UMD who want to participate actively in their education. It attempts to bring together students with diverse talents, interests, and experiences.
We begin accepting applications from high school seniors for the upcoming fall semester almost a year in advance starting the November prior. Incoming freshmen are asked to apply to the program by no later than May 1. Students must be accepted to the University of Minnesota Duluth before they can apply to University Honors. The application consists of an essay (maximum length 1000 words - roughly two pages single-spaced), a list of extracurricular activities, and three academic reference letters. Essays must address the following question: Why do you want to be a part of University Honors?
We make offers on a rolling basis starting in mid-March and ending once we have filled all of our seats. Therefore early applications are more likely to be successful.
We will also review applications from current undergraduates in their freshman or sophomore years (including transfer students) who have a cumulative GPA at or above 3.3 provided we have space available. If you are a current UMD student and would like to apply to the program, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about space avaibility.
Essays and reference letters should be emailed (as Word doc attachments) to: email@example.com. All letters of reference should be emailed to University Honors by the authors of the letters. Essays should be emailed by the applicants.
