The UMD Honors Program

is designed to bring together high-achieving students and dedicated faculty and to provide a small university environment within the diversity of opportunity of the larger university community. We offer motivated students who are serious about their intellectual growth a variety of special classes enhanced by many cultural events and activities, as well as leadership and research opportunities. Our program fosters close individual contact between students and faculty and brings together talented students with many interests.

How will UMD Honors be of benefit to you?

UMD Honors offers a number of intellectual experiences and challenges which deepen the richness of a standard major/minor plan.

•  Honors-designated courses which satisfy all-university requirements are open to you. Here, in a small-enrollment setting with top faculty and other motivated Honors students, you can experience the best of undergraduate education in our time.

•  Honors students build community and friendships through shared living space in the Honors section of UMD housing, cultural activities and special events such as dinners with faculty members, “Meet the Professional” talks, Honors Student Association and its activities, and field trips.

•  Honors students receive mentoring for research opportunities, post-graduate employment and further education, and fellowship and scholarship application guidance.

•  Honors students graduate with general UMD Honors, a benefit on your resume' of lasting value.
