New Student Housing Application Process

UMD Housing application-contracts will be available on-line for admitted students after they have confirmed attending an academic orientation session.

Students who return a housing application-contract postmarked on or before May 1, 2008, will be reserved and assigned a space in University housing based on the date of application for admission to UMD and the availability of space.

 

 

 

 

 

 

UMD Housing Facilities Overview

A variety of furnished housing is available at UMD for students who wish to live in University residence halls, suites, and apartments. The University offers housing to 1,564 students in traditional residence halls, 96 students in suites, and 1,359 students in apartment-style units. RESIDENCE HALL rooms are furnished with beds and mattresses, draperies, desks, chairs, drawer space, study lamps, wastebaskets, compact refrigerator, local telephone service and telephone, basic cable tv service and ethernet computer connection for each resident. Almost all rooms in the residence halls are designed for two students. Students living in the residence halls must provide their own bed linens (pillows, sheets, pillow cases, blankets and bedspreads).

SUITES are designed with two bedrooms, one bathroom, living room, and study area. Furnishings include beds, mattresses, desks, chairs, desk lamps, couch and cushioned chair, coffee table, study table and chairs, draperies, shower curtain, telephone and local telephone service, basic cable tv service, ethernet computer connection for each resident, and compact refrigerator. Each suite will accommodate four students. Students living in the suites must provide their own wastebaskets, and bed linens (pillows, sheets, pillow cases, blankets and bedspreads). Students assigned to university residence halls and suites must choose one of three meal plan options as listed on the enclosed application-contract. Meals are served in the Dining Center.

APARTMENT units are furnished with refrigerator, stove, couch and chair, end table, dining table and chairs, beds and mattresses, desks, chairs, dressers, desk lamps, shower curtain, draperies, local telephone service and telephone, basic cable tv service, and ethernet computer connection for each resident. Students living in the University apartment s must provide their own cooking and eating utensils, wastebaskets, and bed linens (pillows, sheets, pillow case, blanket and bedspread). Each apartment is designed for four students.

Telephone service, including voice-mail, is provided in each residence hall room, suite, and University apartment. The monthly service charge for the telephone, local calls and voice mail is included in the room and board rates. Long distance calls may be made by using a long-distance credit card, by calling collect, and by billing to a third number.

Ethernet computer connections for each resident are available in all University housing facilities. Basic cable television service is provided in all rooms, suites and apartments. All laundry facilities may be used by residents at no additional charge, but residents must provide their own laundry detergent.
