Housing application-contracts for the 2010-2011 academic year will be available on-line for prospective students after a prospective student is admitted and scheduled for an advisement-registration date. The priority application date for submitting a UMD housing application-contract is May 1. Students who submit a housing application-contract on or before May 1 will be assigned a space based on the date of application for admission.

Application-contracts received after May 1 will be accepted based on availability of space and will be assigned based on the date the application-contract is received. The University cannot guarantee housing to students who apply for housing after May 1.

 

UMD Housing Facilities Overview

A variety of furnished housing is available at UMD for students who wish to live in University residence halls and apartments. The University offers housing to 1,564 students in traditional residence halls and 1,455 students in apartment-style units. RESIDENCE HALL rooms are furnished with beds and mattresses, draperies, desks, chairs, drawer space, study lamps, wastebaskets, compact refrigerator, local telephone service and telephone, basic cable tv service and ethernet computer connection for each resident. Almost all rooms in the residence halls are designed for two students. Students living in the residence halls must provide their own bed linens (pillows, sheets, pillow cases, blankets and bedspreads).

APARTMENT units are furnished with refrigerator, stove, couch and chair, end table, dining table and chairs, beds and mattresses, desks, chairs, dressers, desk lamps, shower curtain, draperies, local telephone service and telephone, basic cable tv service, and ethernet computer connection for each resident. Students living in the University apartment s must provide their own cooking and eating utensils, wastebaskets, and bed linens (pillows, sheets, pillow case, blanket and bedspread). Each apartment is designed for four students.

Telephone service, including voice-mail, is provided in each residence hall room and University apartment. The monthly service charge for the telephone, local calls and voice mail is included in the room and board rates. Long distance calls may be made by using a long-distance credit card, by calling collect, and by billing to a third number.

Ethernet computer connections for each resident are available in all University housing facilities. Basic cable television service is provided in all rooms and apartments. All laundry facilities may be used by residents at no additional charge, but residents must provide their own laundry detergent.
