See “Internet Access for Summer Residents” (http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/network/summer.html) for details on how to access this service from your personal computer or mobile device. For those areas without guest wireless access, residents may purchase a temporary Guest ResNet account. This account provides wired broadband Internet access for one computer in a residence hall room or apartment. There is a non-refundable service fee of $54.83 to set up the account, which is valid through August 2013.
Please note that personal wireless hubs or routers are not allowed on the University network. Our network is designed as a shared resource, and unauthorized devices (like wireless hubs or routers) cause disruptions to service for others. Please leave yours at home.
Local phone service is available to guests in their residence hall room or apartment. Guests must provide their own analog phone. There is a non-refundable service fee of $27.42 to set up local phone service; if you choose to change rooms, you will have to pay $27.42 to move the service to the new room.

Cancellation after the first week: 50%
Thereafter: 0%
Special consideration will be given for cancellation due to medical problems or active military duty after the second week if you have provided documentation for the refund exemption.
A thirty day written notice of arrival/departure changes in advance of arrival date is required to prevent being charged for the dates on the reservation request form/assignment letter. Any change of dates may invalidate the apartment assignment. No change of dates will be permitted once residents arrive.
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to the Summer Housing Office. A resident granted approval from the Assistant Director of Housing, Summer Rentals, for cancellation will forfeit their advance payment.
Advance deposits will only be refunded for emergency medical reasons of leaseholder or spouse. All medical reasons must be substantiated in writing by a medical physician as soon as possible but no less than 30 days prior to arrival date and submitted with cancellation request.
At the time of check-in, leaseholders must sign the UMD Summer Lease. The lease is binding for the entire length of time documented on the lease agreement.
Included in the rental rate is a "Summer Dining Dollars" meal card good for meals which can be used for breakfast, lunch or dinner at any of the UMD food service locations.
The Dining Center offers hot entrees, grill items, fresh bakery, salad bar, ice cream, and desserts. Burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and other entrees can be purchased at the Plaza Food Court. All area purchases can be made with a meal card or on a cash basis.
The meal card is issued at the Dining Center at the time of your first meal. The value of the "Summer Dining Dollars" meal card is $200 for eight and ten week renters and $100 for five week renters. There are no refunds for meals not used on the meal cards. You may add money to your meal card at any time.
Summer guests may use their meal card and should find many eating options in the Kirby Plaza Food Court. The Food Court includes a variety of selections such as "Burger Hub," "Daily Special," "Grab N Go," "Mexican Fiesta", "Taste of Italia" and "Center Court Grill".
At the time of check-in, residents will be issued a Senior Activity pass. The pass serves as a name tag, as well as allowing you to use UMD recreational facilities and the campus library. Recreational facilities include tennis courts, weight room, jogging track, field house, swimming pool, ice rink, and gymnasium.
Dates of the UMD Summer Senior Program do not necessarily coincide with the summer class schedule. The UMD 2013 Summer Term begins on June 3 and ends on July 26. For a summer class schedule, call Continuing Education at (218) 726-8113 or go to their web site at www.d.umn.edu/ce and choose the "Learning Opportunities" link.
The Summer Housing Staff provide a limited variety of social, fitness, and educational activities specially designed for senior residents. A calendar and weekly newsletter keeps the summer residents informed about these events.
Each resident will receive a UMD Summer Resident Guidebook upon check-in of University housing. The Guidebook contains the procedures and policies pertaining to campus living, campus and community events, and information about the campus.
Residents are encouraged to carry their own personal property insurance. The University and Housing office assume no responsibility for theft of, or loss of, personal property of any resident or guest from private rooms/apartments, storage areas and public areas. All thefts should be reported to the University Police Department and resident advisor promptly.
The University and Housing Office does not provide any transportation or campus bus shuttle service. Residents must use taxis, public bus transportation, or their own automobiles. Summer residents who fly to Duluth should anticipate renting an automobile upon their arrival.
Be aware that only the Heaney Hall building has an elevator. All other apartment areas have three floors which require residents to walk stairs between floors.
