The Department of Health, Physical Education and RecreationThe Department of Health, Physical Education Recreation employs 22 full-time faculty members with teaching and research interests in athletic training, exercise science, health education, physical education, and recreation/outdoor education. The curriculums of the degree programs reflect the accreditation standards of the various disciplines. Students graduate from these degree programs with a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degree. There are currently over 500 majors enrolled in the degree programs offered by the department. The students in the programs come from Minnesota and Wisconsin and across the Midwest.
Mission statementThe mission of the department is to study human movement, health, and the environment as well as how these areas of study impact each other. We prepare students to succeed as professionals in our recognized major areas. These majors are content rich, laboratory supported and field based, resulting in high quality, professionally associated, accredited, and solution-focused curricula. Faculty accomplish the mission of the department through effectiveness in teaching, productivity in research or other creative activity, and contributions in service.
