PETE Accreditation

The Minnesota Board of Teaching (BOT) regulates institutions (colleges and universities) of higher education and the degree programs they offer.  Graduates of approved programs from these accredited institutions are thereby eligible to apply for teacher licensure within the state of Minnesota.  The Minnesota Board of Teaching has approved the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program at the University of Minnesota Duluth.  The most recent accreditation review occurred in 2006.

The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) also regulates the teacher licensure programs.  NCATE standards ensure that UMD students are being prepared to meet national standards for teacher preparation.  NCATE approval implies that the college employs qualified faculty, has adequate resources for its degree programs, offers a curriculum consistent with national standards, and is committed to providing educational opportunities to a diversity of learners.  UMD is an NCATE approved institution.
