M.S. and Ph.D. Admission Standards
Undergraduate admissions standards for the M.S. and Ph.D. graduate program in Integrated Biosciences include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in the biological or physical sciences or a related field. Background in a wide variety of subdisciplines is appropriate preparation for the Integrated Biosciences Graduate Program. Examples include, but are not limited to, biochemistry, botany, cell biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, immunology, limnology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, physical chemistry, physiology, psychology, and zoology.

Recommended Coursework for Admission
Recommended coursework for admission to the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in IBS is outlined below. However, please note that all applications are evaluated in their entirety, and no single deficiency automatically disqualifies an application from being considered.
M.S. DEGREE
Recommended Courses
- 1 year each chemistry, biology AND physics
- 1 semester calculus
- Strongly encouraged: other advanced courses in chemistry, biology, additional calculus, and introductory statistics |
Ph.D. DEGREE
Recommended Courses
- 1 year each chemistry, biology, physics AND calculus
- 1 year advanced chemistry
Additional courses for:
Ecology Organismal Population (EOP) emphasis
- 1 semester each statistics, ecology AND evolutionary biology
- 1 course in two of the following subjects:
Genetics
Cell biology
Biochemistry
Cell Molecular Physiological (CMP) emphasis
- 1 year organic chemistry
- 1 course genetics
- 1 course cell biology
- 1 course biochemistry |
Deadlines
The IBS program only accepts applicants for fall admission. The admissions committee begins reviewing applications for fall admission in January. Offers of acceptance are made on a rolling basis and continue until all openings are full. Offers of teaching and research assistantships are typically made before April 15. March 15 is the application deadline for students to be considered for financial aid.
After June 15 absolutely no other applications will be considered for fall admission.

- Three online letters of recommendation
Submit names of recommenders online under Recommendations section
If your recommenders are unable to submit letters online, they should send letters directly to the IBS Admissions Office (address below). They must be in sealed envelopes with the signature of the recommender written across the sealed flap of the envelope. You will still need to submit names of your recommenders online to complete your application.
