Integrated Biosciences (IBS) Application Instructions
Prospective students are encouraged to apply by December 15th for fullest consideration for fellowships and by February 15th for assistantships. The IBS Program application deadline is March 31.
UMN ONLINE APPLICATION NOTES:
1. When selecting "What is your proposed major and degree objective" please select one of the following under the Twin Cities Campus Programs:
- Integrated Biosciences - MS - 213831508
- Integrated Biosciences - PhD - 213860208
2. When selecting "What Campus will you be attending", please select:
- The University of Minnesota - Twin Cities (even if the campus you propose to study at is the Duluth Campus).
3. Please specify your campus of choice on the IBS Supplemental Application below and in your online application under "Applicant Statements - #1".
Although the IBS Program is an all-University program, 99% of our students and faculty reside on the UMD Duluth Campus. Please keep this in mind when seeking faculty sponsorship and when selecting your campus location choice.

Completed supplemental application should be uploaded to your ApplyYourself application under "Graduate Program Supplementary Information section: Graduate Program Additional Application".

- Description of Research, Teaching or Work Experience; Resume; or CV
Submit under Graduate Program Supplementary Information section in appropriate area
- *Honors, Awards, or Lists of Publications
Submit under Honors, awards, activities section
- Submit your recent GRE Scores - Required
When you take the GRE exam by computer, you will get to a point where it asks you what institutions you want to send the scores. One of the institutions is the University of Minnesota Minneapolis/St. Paul (code 6874). No department code is needed.
If you already have your scores, send a copy of them electronically to ibsadmit@d.umn.edu or by fax to: (218) 726-8152

Submit Letters of Recommendation - Required by Program
Three letters of recommendation must be submitted online through the Graduate School Online ApplyYourself portal. Follow the instructions for online letters.
It is up to you, the applicant, to ensure your reference letters have been received by the University of MN. Please check your application status regularly.
If you cannot use the ApplyYourself online letter system, please follow these instructions:
- Provide a copy of the IBS Recommendation Form to each recommender along with your request to them.
- You must still list the names of your
3 "Recommender's" in your Graduate School online application. When asked if the "Recommender" will be submitting their letter online, indicate "NO".
- Paper copies must be mailed directly to the IBS Program Admissions Office.
- Letters should include an original, signed IBS Recommendation Form and be sent in a sealed envelope with the signature of the recommender written across the sealed flap

1. *Official Transcripts - Must be sent directly from university or college to the Graduate School, see Transcript FAQ's (with English translations) by the application deadline date. Copies of transcripts are acceptable for initial consideration purposes only.
2. *Official TOEFL scores for English proficiency if English is not your first language:

The University of Minnesota Graduate School also accepts MELAB and IELTS scores for English proficiency.
3. *Copies of GRE test scores if unable to transmit results online.

Application Deadline: March 31 for fall admission - (no spring admissions)
The IBS program only accepts applications for fall admission.
The Admissions Committee begins reviewing applications for fall
admission in October. Offers of acceptance are made on a rolling basis and continue until all openings are full. Offers
of
teaching and research assistantships are typically made before March 1. January 1 is the application deadline for
students to
be considered for Graduate School Fellowship nomination.
