Shelley Smith received her MS in Communication Studies from Portland State University and her Ph.D. in Intercultural and Diversity Communication from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She has been actively engaged in teaching and training in academia since 1984. She has taught undergraduate and graduate communication courses, and was an Education Specialist at the UMTC's Center for Teaching and Learning Services for nine years where she was a graduate instructor for the Preparing Future Faculty and ITA programs, and a facilitator for the Midcareer and Internationalizing the On-Campus Curriculum Faculty programs. She has been an Education Consultant doing on-site consultation, customizing and configuring of ePortfolio software, and providing on-line and on-site training, and has also been a faculty trainer and program developer for the Program for Nations in Transition in Ukraine.

A few years after graduating from UMD, Jason Ellis was hired as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Darland Connection coordinating UMD student volunteers. Jason is now the IDS event promo/setup person and office coordinator. He enjoys exploring innovative technology and is intrigued by the frequent exchange of thought-provoking ideas generated at UMD.
