- Contact the local program coordinator
- Contact your family
- Contact the appropriate program coordinator at UMD, during office hours, 8:00-4:30 Central Standard Time Zone

What constitutes an emergency?
Emergencies are those that pose a genuine and sometimes immediate risk to, or that have already disturbed the safety and well-being of study abroad program participants. Emergencies include those situations involving a single program participant, multiple program participants, or all program participants. These include:
- Physical assault
- Disappearance, taken hostage, or kidnapping of a student
- Robbery
- Sexual assault or rape
- Serious illness, physical or emotional
- Significant accident and/or injury
- Hospitalization for any reason
- Terrorist threat or attack
- Local political, natural or man-made crisis/disaster that could affect the students’ safety or well-being
- Arrest or questioning by the police or other security forces
- Any legal action (lawsuit, deposition, trial, etc.) involving a student
