UMD Study Abroad Scholarships
The International Education Office administers a scholarship fund that offers over $90,000 in scholarships annually to UMD students studying on programs abroad. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships with the submission of this one application. All students planning on studying abroad are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility
• University of Minnesota Duluth undergraduate, degree seeking students
• The study abroad program must require a passport
• Applications may be submitted prior to acceptance into a program
Application Process
Complete one online application form which includes a short essay that answers:
1. Why you selected your study abroad program?
2. How you will prepare to maximize your learning while abroad?
3. What do you plan on learning during your study abroad experience.
Only electronic applications submitted by the deadline will be accepted. Applicants will receive an e-mail indicating their application has been received.

Scholarships in the Fund
When submitting the application, UMD students will automatically be applying for all* of the following scholarships with stipulations listed below:
UMD Study Abroad Scholarships
• International Education Office approved study abroad program
• 3 credit minimum
• Program must be at least 10 days in length
UMN University-wide Scholarship
• International Education Office approved study abroad program
• 3 credit minimum
• Program must be at least 3 weeks in length
UMD Affiliate Program Scholarships
UMD students going on any of the following Affiliate Programs:
• (API) Academic Programs International
• (ASA) Academic Studies Abroad
• (AIFS) American Institute for Foreign Studies
• GlobaLinks
• (ISA) International Studies Abroad
• (USAC) University Study Abroad Consortium
*Optional: Alworth Institute Study Abroad Scholarship Opportunity
Students must indicate via checkbox on the application form if interested in this optional scholarship opportunity. Additional involvement includes:
• Students interested in acquiring international experience with Alworth Institute events
• The successful applicant is expected to offer an “Alworth International Brown Bag” presentation

Notification of Awards
All scholarship applicants will be notified of the scholarship committee's decisions via their U of MN e-mail account. Notification will be sent approximately 6 weeks after the application deadline.
