2009 International Education Photo Contest

Eligibility

Any UMD student who has participated on a 2008-2009 year, semester, or short-term study abroad program (University of Minnesota Duluth, or non-UMD affiliated) is able to enter a photograph of their own work, taken digitally or with film. Qualified applicants may submit photos to the International Education Photo Contest Committee at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

For purposes of this competition "study abroad" may include internships and/or credit bearing studies. This does not include vacation travel abroad, other than interim travel as part of a foreign study program.

 

Contest Rules

The International Education Office reserves the right to use the photographs as stated in the Photo Quote Release Form.

  1. Applicants must have participated on a study abroad program during the 2008-2009 academic year.

  2. Submitted photographs must sent digitally as outlined below and may be in black and white or color. Film prints can be scanned and then submitted digitally.

  3. Qualified applicants may enter up to two (2) digital photographs. Only digital prints are accepted.

  4. All entries become property of the International Education Office at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

  5. Each photograph must be accompanied by a complete set of forms.

  6. Any submitted photograph must not have been modified or altered in any way from its original state, with the exception of resizing or cropping.

  7. Photographs must be submitted by 4:00pm on Friday, November 6, 2009, with a completed Photograph/Quote Release form, and Photo Contest Application form to the International Education Office:

  8. No more than one (1) prize may be awarded per person.

 

Submit an Entry

To submit an entry, students must have first read the eligibility and rules for applicants.

Qualified applicants must submit the following by Friday, November 6, 2009, by 4:00pm to the International Education Office at UMD:

  1. Submit a photo either
    • Electronically to ieo@d.umn.edu as a .jpg at medium quality (72 dpi and at most 7" at the longest dimension)
      • No picture shoudl be more than 2MB in size
      • Save the photo as Last name, First Name-Title of Photo-City, Country 2009 entry
    • OR, Alternatively, students may submit a CD or DVD of their image(s). Make certain the disc can be read on both MAC and PC platforms to IEO
      • Label the jacket with your Name, UMD ID number, photo tile, and term(s) abroad
  2. a completed Photo/Quote Release Form
  3. and a completed Photo Contest Application Form

Awards

Winners will be announced during International Education Week, November 16-22, 2009. The top three entries and honorable mention photographs will be displayed on campus during this week.

The top three photographs will be awarded the following:

  • 1st place-$75 cash prize
  • 2nd place-$50 cash prize
  • 3rd place-$25 cash prize
