Apply to a Study Abroad Program
Once you have followed the necessary steps to studying abroad and are ready to apply to a program, the next step is to apply to a program. For UMD-sponsored programs, please complete the UMD Study Abroad Application. Students are admitted to the selected program based on this application and the academic requirements outlined in the program's brochure and on the website. Please ensure the following documents accompany your completed application and all are turned in to the International Education Office before the deadline:
- $100 non-refundable application fee (payable to UMD)
- Current unofficial copy of your transcript (not your APAS Report)
- Personal statement covering why you want to participate in the program - in your statement, please describe your goals and expectations, both academic and personal
- For students applying to Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia, please complete and return to IEO the Curtin application with your UMD Study Abroad Application. Also, a letter of reference is required, preferable from a faculty member. However, employers, secondary educators may be acceptable.
- For students applying to University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, please complete and return to IEO the Waikato application with your UMD Study Abroad Application.
You will receive an official letter regarding your acceptance within a couple weeks depending on volume of activity and priority. Once accepted, you will receive further information and forms to complete.

Students on non-UMD programs
Students who wish to take part in a program not sponsored by UMD will need to apply directly to the program using the program's own application form and process. Most program sponsors have materials available on their website or in their brochures.
