UMD Programs in ChinaThe University of Minnesota Duluth offers short-term programs to China. The Chinese civilization is one of the world's oldest with the world's longest continuously used written language system. The People's Republic of China, commonly referred to as China, holds over 1.31 billion people, making it the most populous country in the world. It is also the among the largest in total area as well as the second largest in land area. China's economy is rapidly growing and ranks among the largest in the world in terms of economy, purchasing power parity and export/import. Another political entity associated with China is the Republic of China, commonly referred to today as Taiwan. Taiwan also maintains a vibrant and growing economy. Students participating in this summer session program in China will study language and culture in Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao, China. This unique program will give students the opportunity to visit the cities of Beijing and Shanghai and study for three and one-half weeks at Ocean University in Qingdao, China. The program will be led by University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Professor Zhuangyi Liu. Faculty from the Ocean University of China will provide instruction. Students earn 6 credits of 1xxx level Chinese language. Business and Economy The summer study in China program is an introduction to Chinese business and economy. It provides students with an understanding of the social, cultural, economic and political environments of doing business in China.
