University Information
Before departure, faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will assist students to find appropriate courses at Loughborough University. The semester typically begins in early February with an orientation session held prior to the start of the semester classes.

Location Information
LU is a major regional university with approximately 12,000 students. It has an impressive 216-acre campus—one of the largest in the UK–with easy access from the M1, East Midlands Airport and only 90 minutes from London St. Pancras. Loughborough itself is a remarkable combination of a thriving market town and a prominent high-technology center for the East Midlands. LU has 24 academic departments and over 30 research centers and institutes. Its website can be found at: www.lboro.ac.uk/.

Courses Available
Before departure, faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will assist students to find appropriate courses at LU. Students will be registered for a block of Foreign Studies credits while abroad by the International Education Office. When students return, the block is replaced by individual Foreign Studies courses. If LU has courses which are equivalent to those at UMD, the UMD courses will be listed. If there is no equivalent, the name of the course at LU will be listed. please view current course equivalencies for Loughborough University.

Eligibility
Participants MUST have a passport, valid for at least 6 months after their return to the U.S. It is recommended that UMD students first successfully complete most of their 3000-level math and statistics classes. As such, the exchange program is best suited for UMD juniors and seniors. With that background, UMD students will have the necessary material for the typical B Modules offered at Loughborough University. Participants should also be in good academic standing.

Costs
The program package is approximately $3,500. A non-refundable deposit will be due upon acceptance to the program. The remainder of the program fee will be billed through Student Accounts Receivable.

The program fee includes the tuition for academic credits and international health insurance.

Items NOT included in the overall cost are:

  • Housing
  • Food
  • Airfare
  • Books
  • Personal expenses
  • Cost of obtaining a passport

Fluctuating currency exchange rates may increase or decrease the cost of your international experience. Financial aid may be applied toward the cost of the program if you are enrolled as a full-time student, though tuitions waivers such as Best in Class may not be used. There are several study abroad scholarships for University of Minnesota students.
