Program Description
UMD’s Study in England Program is a multi-faceted study abroad program that celebrates its 33rd year with the 2012-2013 program.
Each year UMD sends up to 50 students, 4 semester faculty, and 1 Director to Worcester, England.

Director Benefits
- The reward of working closely with students who are learning to make their way in a global world
- In addition to your regular nine month salary, the director receives a salary augmentation of $5,000
- Reimbursement for roundtrip airfare and relocation expenses including the shipment of materials up to $2,500
- Reimbursement for UK entry clearance documentation.
- The director’s home department is provided with $40,000 to cover the cost of temporary faculty to teach lost courses

Director Responsibilities
Primary duties:
- The SIE Program Director is expected to be on-site in Worcester, England by the beginning of August until the end of July the following year and is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the program
- Recruit students to participate in the program and interview to determine acceptance
- Visit the program on-site in Worcester the semester prior to year as Director
- Create course descriptions and determine course materials to distribute to students at orientations held spring semester before departure
- Serve as the on-site academic administrator to maintain the academic quality and integrity of the program
- Teach one course per semester in area of expertise
- Set semester weekly class schedule in conjunction of UofW Coordinator
- Set advising hours to meet with students regarding academic, program, and personal topics
- Set the field trip calendar
- Manage program budgets and records and provide monthly reports to IEO
- Serve as UMD’s liaison with The University of Worcester
- Coordinate student housing with the University of Worcester housing office
- Coordinate the placement of Study in England Programme students in the University of Worcester courses with the university International Office
- Organize and participate in arrival and departure orientations, conduct student advising, assist with cultural adjustment, distribute end of semester faculty evaluations and end of year program evaluation, and organize and participate in social gatherings and the pre-departure banquet
- Manage one or two student workers who will assist with office duties, student activities, and the creation and maintenance of a program web site and program yearbook

- The Director/Faculty handbook: which is designed each year for the participating director and faculty. This handbook contains brief history of the program, program contact details, director/faculty responsibilities and more specific information on the program. This is the handbook for 2010-2011 and will be updated for the 2011-2012 year in spring semester 2011.

How to Apply
A. Complete Application Materials
- Faculty Application (Fillable PDF) and the Department Approval Forms should be filled out, printed, signed and turned in to the International Education Office, 138 Kirby Plaza. Note that both your Department Head and Dean must approve and sign the Department Approval Form.
- A 1-2 page typed proposal, discussing your interest in participating in the 2012-13 Study in England Programme. Director applications should (a) address leadership, administrative and budget experience, (b) indicate the strengths and experience you will bring to the program, including your experience and commitment to international education; and detail your reasons for seeking the Director position.
- Details of 3-4 courses (3-4 credits each) that you propose to teach while in England. Note that only 2 will actually be taught. Courses should, in some way, take advantage of the British/European setting and should be courses that will attract students to the program. Preferred courses will fulfill Liberal Education Requirements and please indicate the categories in your application. Courses can also be a mix of lower and upper division courses. Courses proposed at the 3000 level should not have prerequisites.
- A copy of your curriculum vitae
- Copies of 3-5 teaching evaluations
- The names and email addresses of 3 references who can comment on your qualifications to direct the program
B. Deliver Application Materials
- Turn in the entire packet to Anna Affias in the International Education Office, 138 Kirby Plaza by 4:30PM on Friday, April 15, 2011.
