University Information
Blekinge Institute of Technology is located at three sites with about 6,300 students. The main campus, Campus Gräsvik, is located in Karlskrona, Sweden. The other two campuses are the Soft Center in Ronneby, Sweden and Campus Karlshamn in Karlshamn, Sweden. Founded in 1989, the university offers English-taught courses in computer science, engineering, information technology and business. Technical and non-technical courses are built up around the concept of applied information technology specialized individual subjects available. The campus is located on the southeast coast of Sweden near the Baltic Sea. Karlskrona is built on a number of islands.

Location Information
The three campus sites of Blekinge Institute of Technology; Karlskrona, Ronneby and Karlshamn; are located along the southeastern coast of Sweden near the Baltic Sea. The city of Karlskrona is built on a number of islands. Home to the only naval base in Sweden, the 17th-century style of naval city planning earns Karlskrona a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Karlskrona, Ronneby and Karlshamn have populations of 61,000; 28,000 and 31,000 respectively. Malmö and Copenhagen can be reached by train within a couple hours. The coastal locations also provide opportunities to reach other Baltic countries via passenger ships. Ronneby lies between Karlshamn and Karlskrona with approximately 30 kilometers to either city from Ronneby.

Academic Credit
Classes are measured in Swedish Points are European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits. Classes worth 5 points are equal to 7.5 ECTS or 4 UMD credits. Classes are typically taken one at a time and are usually 5 weeks long.

Eligibility
Degree seeking students at any University of Minnesota campus who have completed one full year of study prior to the beginning of the exchange are eligible. For some areas of study, students should have completed substantial upper division course work. The minimum GPA is 2.4, and students need to consult with a study abroad advisor in the International Education Office (IEO) in 138 Kirby Plaza before they apply. Tentative acceptance will be done by IEO. Final acceptance is done by the foreign university.

Costs
Our goal is to keep prices similar to those of attending UMD. The program cost per semester to attend Blekinge Institute of Technology can be found here.
Fluctuating currency exchange rates may increase or decrease the cost of your international experience. Financial aid may be applied toward the cost of exchange programs. There are several study abroad scholarships for University of Minnesota students.

Deadlines & Dates
Deadlines occur the semester prior to the start of a program. Thus for studies starting fall semester, March 15 will be the deadline to apply. While studies starting spring term, the deadlind to apply is October 15.

Orientation
At least one pre-departure orientation and one on-site orientation will be held. Pre-departure
orientation will include information about financial aid information, class transferring, international insurance, student residence permit, classes, travel tips and two handbooks for participants to reference: general study abroad handbook and Swedish handbook.

Housing
Student housing consists of small apartments for 2-4 students or corridors for 6-12 students. Corridors consist of individual bedrooms and usually their own bathrooms, and share living room, kitchen and dinning room with corridor mates. Typical corridor mates will include Swedish and international students.

What's Next?
Before applying, it is a good idea to follow the steps under steps to studying abroad. The IEO website also provides information on financing, health & safety and other important information to consider when choosing to study abroad. When ready to apply, students must complete the online application and attach the required accompanying materials (unofficial transcript and essay). Students will be billed the non-refundable $50 application fee to their student account.

Applying for a Swedish Residence Permit
All Exchange in Sweden participants will need to apply and be approved for a Swedish Residence Permit. Students can apply for a permit after they have received their official acceptance by Blekinge Institute of Technology. Early application is highly encouraged.
