Search to Save Lives
Collaboration between three scientists has yielded the design of a low volume resuscitation fluid that may increase the survival rates of people suffering from hemorrhagic shock. The work of Matthew Andrews, Ph.D. (UMD), Lester R. Drewes, Ph.D. (University of Minnesota Medical School – Duluth) and Gregory Beilman, M.D. (University of Minnesota Medical School – Minneapolis) could save an estimated 33,000 people in the U.S. alone.
UMD Ink
The reasons people get tattoos are as varied as the artwork itself. Tattoos can be a sign of beauty or a statement of empowerment, rebellion, or remembrance. An informal survey of 201 UMD students revealed that 26% have at least one tattoo. Of the 113 women surveyed, 35% have tattoos; whereas out of 88 men surveyed, only 14% have tattoos.
Playoff Action
One more time — it's a rematch of last year's NCAA Div II quarterfinals, only this time it's in Duluth. Top seeded University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (11-1) advance to play second seed Grand Valley State Lakers (11-1) this Saturday, Nov. 28 at noon. The reigning national champion Bulldogs will host the game on their home turf, Malosky Stadium.
