Chem 200: Playing a Video Tape

  1. Lower the screen.
  2. Turn on the classroom technology control system.
  3. Press the VHS button on the control panel.
  4. Turn on the closed caption converter if needed.
  5. Turn on the VCR.
  6. Insert the videotape into the VCR.
  7. The tape should play automatically, if it doesn't press "Play".
  8. Adjust the sound.
  9. Adjust the lighting.
  10. Remove your tape and turn off the VCR.
  11. Turn off the system.
  12. Raise the projection screen.

1. Lower the screen.

The DOWN position button is a standard push type button.

There are two projection screens in Chem 200, each raised and lowered by an electric motor. Use the screen at the center of the front wall for video projector presentations. To lower the screen, press the Down arrow button on the screen control switch. Press the button once and release it. The screen will automatically stop in the correct down position. This switch is located on the front wall of the auditorium.

2. Turn on the classroom technology control system.

This classroom is equipped with a control system panel that eliminates individual remote controls and power switches.

It is located on the top front corner of the instructor station.

It is above the cabinet door.

Press the ON button.

This button is the top, left one on the control panel.

The projector will begin warming up. After two to three minutes the projector will be ready for use.

3. Press the VHS button on the control panel.

Press the VHS button.

This button is on the right side of the control panel, fourth from the top.

4. Turn on the closed caption converter if needed.

The close caption converter is located in the instructor station. Press the closed caption power button.

The closed caption decoder power button is on the right side of the unit.

A red indicator light shows when it is on.

5. Turn on the VCR.

The DVD/ VCR combo unit is located in the podium/instructor station.

It has both a VCR and a DVD player in a single  unit.

The unit has two sections.

The DVD controls are clustered on the right side and the VCR controls are clustered on the left side of unit.

Press the POWER button.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

The unit will turn on and the power indicator will illuminate.

6. Insert the videotape into the VCR.

The tape insertion area is located in the front left section of on the face on the VCR.

7. The tape should play automatically. If it doesn't press Play.

The power button is the third button from the the left on the front of the player.

8. Adjust the sound.

9. Adjust the lighting.

The projector provides the best picture quality and brightness in a dark or dimly lit room. To dim the front of the room while leaving adequate lighting for students to take notes, press the top button on the rightmost lighting control switch.

It is a narrow push button type switch.

The lighting control switches are located on the left front wall of the room near the exit. Other lighting options can be selected by pressing other buttons on the two lighting control switches. You might want to experiment to find the best lighting option for your purposes.

It is best to adjust the lights after you have set up so you can more easily see the equipment controls.

10. Remove your tape and turn off the VCR when you are finished.

Press the eject button to remove your tape.

The stop/eject button is the first button from the the left on the front of the player.

Press the power button to turn the VCR off.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

11. Turn off the system.

This button is the top, right one on the control panel.

The projector lamp will turn off. Approximately one second after that the, lamp will be cooled for about a minute. Then the system will be completely shut off.

12. Raise the projection screen.

The UP position button is a standard push type button.

This switch is located on the front wall of the auditorium.
