Chem 200: Using the Wired Microphone.

1. Obtain the keys.

The Chem 200 equipment key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in Chem 200.

Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. "AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Unlock and open the AV equipment cabinet door.

The AV equipment is located in the rightmost section of the instruction table as you face the class. Use the Chem 200 cabinet key to unlock the door to this section.

This door has one lock on it.

When fully open, the door can be pushed back into the cabinet for your convenience.

3. Turn on power in the AV equipment cabinet..

Press the red button on the power control box at the top of the AV equipment rack. The button lights when power is on.

The main power button is a toggle type button.

4. Turn on the audio amplifier.

The audio amplifier is located in the same cabinet as the VCR and other AV equipment. It is normally left on, and a small green light on the front of the amplifier indicates when it is on. If the green light is not on, press the power button on the amplifier.

The audio power button is on the right side of the amplifier.

5. Test the microphone.

Get the wired microphone out of the bottom of the AV equipment cabinet.

The wired microphone should be coiled up down there.

The microphone volume level on the audio amplifier should be preset unless someone has changed it. If the volume is not correct, check and adjust the dial on the amplifier labeled Mic.

The wired microphone dials is the first one on the left of the unit and master volume dial is the first one on the right.

The dial on the amplifier labeled Master adjusts the overall volume level of all devices connected to the room audio system, including the VCR and computers as well as the microphone. Adjust it up or down as necessary, but be aware that this also adjusts the volume for the other devices mentioned. It is best to adjust the microphone volume using the Mic dial rather than Master.

6. Replace the microphone when finished.

Return it to the bottom of the AV equipment cabinet when you are finished.

The wired microphone should be coiled up.

7. Turn off the power in the AV cabinet..

Press the red button on the power control box at the top of the AV equipment rack. The button is unlighted when power is off.

The main power button is a toggle type button.

8. Close and lock the cabinet door..

Close and lock the door using the Chem 200 cabinet key.

Please double check to make sure this door is locked.
