LSci 185: Using the Wired Microphone.

1. Obtain the keys.

The LSci 185 equipment cabinet key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in this room.

Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. "AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Unlock and open the equipment cabinet doors.

The microphone is located in the equipment cabinet at the front of the room. This cabinet has four locks. Use the equipment cabinet key to unlock them.

Two locks are located at the top and two locks are located at the bottom of the cabinet doors.

Then open the doors.

3. Plug in the microphone.

Take it out of the cabinet. The microphone receptacle is located on the front of sink cabinet. Plug the microphone into the MIC 1 receptacle on the front of sink cabinet.

The microphone receptacle is to the left of an electrical outlet.

Then place the other end on you in the position you prefer for your presentation.

4. Turn on and adjust the audio amplifier.

The audio amplifier is located at the front left side of the room as you face the class. Open the door to the amplifier controls.

The door has a small lock on it that is never locked.

The audio amplifier is normally left on, and a small red light on the front of the amplifier indicates when it is on. If the red light is not on, press the power button on the amplifier.

The power button is located at the top center of the unit.

Check the audio amplifier volume levels. If the volume for the Wired Microphone is not correct adjust the dial on the amplifier labeled MIC 1.

The volume dial is located at the bottom left on the unit.

The dial on the amplifier labeled Master adjusts the overall volume level of all devices connected to the room audio system. Adjust it up or down as necessary, but be aware that this also adjusts the volume for any other devices that may be connected to the amplifier. It is best to adjust the volume using the MIC1 dial rather than Master.

Set all level controls you will NOT be using to minimum. Then close the amplifier door.

5. When you are finished return the microphone to the equipment cabinet.

Unplug the microphone from the MIC1 receptacle which is located at the front of the room on the cabinet below the sink.

The microphone receptacle is to the left of an electrical outlet.

Return it to the equipment cabinet.

6. Close and lock the equipment cabinet doors.

Close and lock the equipment cabinet doors using the equipment key.

Two locks are located at the top and two locks are located at the bottom of the cabinet doors.

Please double check to make sure that the cabinet is locked.
