LSci 185: Using the Wireless Microphone.

1. Obtain the keys.

The LSci 185 equipment cabinet key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in this room.

Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. "AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Unlock and open the equipment cabinet doors.

The projector controls and other equipment are located in the equipment cabinet at the front of the room. This cabinet has four locks. Use the equipment cabinet key to unlock them.

Two locks are located at the top and two locks are located at the bottom of the cabinet doors.

Then open the doors.

3. Turn on the audio amplifier.

The audio amplifier is located at the front left side of the room as you face the class. Open the door to the amplifier controls.

The power button is located at the top center of the unit.

Check the audio amplifier volume levels. If the volume for the Wireless Microphone is not correct adjust the dial on the amplifier labeled AUX 2.

The dial on the amplifier labeled Master adjusts the overall volume level of all devices connected to the room audio system. Adjust it up or down as necessary, but be aware that this also adjusts the volume for any other devices that may be connected to the amplifier. It is best to adjust the volume using the AUX 2 dial rather than Master. The amplifier controls may need to be set very high on both the AUX 2 and the Master.

Set all level controls you will NOT be using to minimum. Then close the amplifier door.

4. Turn on the wireless tuner.

The wireless tuner is in the equipment cabinet. Turn on the tuner's power button.

The power button is located on the left side of the unit.

5. Test the microphone.

Take it out of the cabinet and place it on you in the position you prefer for your presentation.

The wireless microphone is located the top left shelf of the cabinet beside the audio amplifier.

Turn it on by pressing and holding the Power/Mute button for a second or two, until the red power indicator and LCD window have come on. Do not press the Power/Mute button again or it will go into the mute mode.

The power button is located on the front of the unit.

If the volume is not correct, check and adjust the dials on the amplifier as advised in step number 3 .

Set all level controls you will NOT be using to minimum so you do not experience audio feedback .

If you get stray signals from outside sources or have other problems with the unit , use the wired microphone and call Doug at 8151 for assistance.
