MonH 108: Playing a DVD.

1. Obtain the keys.

MonH 108 equipment cabinet key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in this room.

Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. "AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Unlock and open the cabinet and podium doors.

The large cabinet in the front left corner of the room contains operating controls and other equipment. Use the MonH 108 equipment cabinet key to unlock and open the cabinet doors.

Two locks are located on the front of the cabinet doors.

Also open the podium/instructor station cabinet doors.

Two locks are located on the front of the podium doors.

3. Turn on the cabinet power.

The cabinet power switch is on the the right side of the cabinet on the silver panel below the light dimmer switches and screen switches.

Raise the switch to the up position.

The cabinet power switch is the fourth one from the left.

4. Turn on the audio amplifier.

The audio amplifier is located on the top shelf on the left hand side of the cabinet. It is normally left on, and a small green light on the front of the amplifier indicates when it is on. If the green light is not on, press the power button on the amplifier.

The power button is the first button on the right of the unit.

If the volume for the VCR is not correct, check and adjust the dial on the amplifier labeled Podium.

The volume control dial is the first button from the left on the front of the amp.

The dial on the amplifier labeled Master adjusts the overall volume level of all devices connected to the room audio system. Adjust it up or down as necessary, but be aware that this also adjusts the volume for all the equipment in the podium as well as the wireless microphone. It is best to adjust the podium volume judiciously using the Podium dial rather than Master. Then use the control panel volume controls.

Set all level controls you will NOT be using to minimum to avoid feedback.

5. Lower the screen.

MonH 108 has two projection screens. They are raised and lowered by electric motors. To lower a screen, the press hall or window screen switch to the down position. These switches are located above and to the right of the cabinet power switch.

The screen controls are regular light type switches.

6. Press the DVD/VHS button on the control panel.

The control panel is located on top of the podium/instructor station.

It located on top of the podium, left front corner.

Press the DVD/VHS button for either the "Window Wall Projector" or "Hallway Wall Projector".

There is DVD/VHS  button for each projector.

The light next to the button will flash red indicating that the projector is warming up. After two to three minutes the flashing will stop and the light will become constant red, indicating that the projector is ready for use.

7. Turn on the DVD.

The DVD/ VCR combo unit is located in the podium/instructor station.

It has both a VCR and a DVD player in a single  unit.

The unit has two sections.

The DVD controls are clustered on the right side and the VCR controls are clustered on the left side of unit.

Press the POWER button.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

The unit will turn on and the power indicator will illuminate.

8. Turn on the Closed Caption converter if needed.

Press the closed captioning button.

The Closed Captioning button is in the middle section of the control panel, directly above the program volume buttons.

The light next to the button will turn red, indicating that closed captioning is activated.

9. Insert the DVD into the DVD player.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button in the DVD section.

The OPEN/CLOSE button is the first button on the right of the front of player.

Hold your disc by its edges and gently place it into the tray with the playback side down. Their are two different disc sizes. Place the disc in the correct guide, If the disc is out of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause the DVD player to malfunction. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray.

10. Press the play button.

The PLAY button is the third button from the right on the front of the player.

Press the PLAY button. The disc will begin. The disc tray closes automatically. You can use the VCR/DVD remote for additional functions as needed while playing your disc.

11. Adjust the sound.

The control panel has several buttons to control and adjust sound.

You can mute, raise, or lower it. You can also blank the video.

Audio Mute Button
Press it once to mute the sound. Press it a second time to restore the sound.
Volume Buttons
Press the button on right side of the Audio Mute button to increase the volume. Press the button on left side of the Audio Mute button to increase the volume.

There are also two Video Mute Buttons. Press once to blank out the video. Press a second time to restore the video.

12. Adjust the lighting.

The projector provides the best picture quality and brightness in a dark or dimly lit room. The switches are located above and to the left of the Cabinet Power switch. You might want to experiment to find the best lighting option for your purposes.

The switches control the front and back lighting and have dimming options.

Entry room lighting can be controlled by the entry light switch on the silver control panel

The entry light switch is the first switch on the left.

It is best to adjust the lights after you have set up so you can easily see the operating controls.

13. Restore the room lighting when you are finished.

Entry room lighting can be restored by lifting its switch on the entry light switch on the silver control panel.

14. Remove your DVD and turn off the VCR/DVD.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button.

The OPEN/CLOSE button is the first button on 
  the right of the front of player.

Remove your disc.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

Press the POWER button. The VCR/DVD unit will shut off.

15. Turn off the control panel power.

Press the "POWER OFF" button on the control panel for both the "Window Wall Projector" and "Hallway Wall Projector".

You can power off either projector or both of them.

The light next to the button will flash indicating that the projector is shutting down. If you want to turn they system back on again, after you have pressed the "System Off" button you must wait until until its light has stopped flashing.

16. Raise the projection screen.

Press the switch of projection screen that you have been using (either the Hall Side or Window Side) to the up position.

The screen controls are regular light type switches.

17. Turn off the cabinet power.

Lower the cabinet power switch to the down position.

The cabinet power switch is the fourth one from the left.

18. Close and lock the cabinet doors.

Close and lock the cabinet doors using the MonH 108 equipment cabinet key.

Two locks are located on the front of the cabinet doors.

Also lock the podium/instructor station cabinet doors.

Two locks are located on the front of the podium doors.
