If you are experiencing trouble with the projector, follow
these steps to make sure everything is properly connected
before calling for assistance.
- Check cable connections. Verify that all computer and
power cables are properly connected.
- Turn on the equipment in the proper
sequence. Make sure that you are following
the ordered steps. Double
check the Classroom User Guide or Miscellaneous
Room User Guide for
the room and piece of equipment that you are using.
- If you are using a laptop computer and its monitor is
not displaying your presentation, make sure that you have
reactivated the computer
monitor. Most laptop computers deactivate their own
monitor when a second display device, such as a projector
is connected. Refer to your computer's documentation. Many
laptop monitors can be reactivated by depressing the FN key
and either F2, F3, F8, or F12 keys (the exact command will
depend on your particular model). If your computer is a G3
PowerBook, you should select "Monitor Icon" on PowerBook
control strip, and "Select Resolution" to match display
device (e.g. 800x600 Simulscan for simultaneous display on
PowerBook and on projector).
- Some Windows laptop computers do not automatically turn on
their external video port when a secondary display such as
a projector is connected. Some computers may have multiple
display screen modes. Use of these modes may not be
possible with this projector. Some laptops require special
settings. See the manual that came with your laptop.
- Some Mac laptop computers require adaptors. See the manual
that came with your laptop.
- If you are using a Hitachi
CP-X960 projector see the

- If you have no audio when trying to play a video, check the
back of the VCR to make
sure the audio cable is plugged in. It is possible that someone
may have unplugged the audio cable from the VCR and
not reconnected it when they were finished. Any faculty that
need access to the audio cable can contact Audio Visual at
6222. They will make a special set of cables for rooms
that need this accommodation.
- For rooms that are not equipped with control panels
and that have a projector remote:
- Verify that the projector has not been switched off with
the standby button on the remote control
keypad.
- Verify that none of the keys on the keypad are stuck
in the down position.
- If you are trying to show a video source and the projector
doesn't automatically detect a video signal press
the video button
on the remote.
- If you are trying to show a computer source and the projector
doesn't automatically detect a computer signal
press the RGB button on the remote.
- If you can not adjust the projector volume level using
the buttons on the remote move underneath the
projector for it to receive a clearer signal
from the remote. In some rooms the remote will
not work from the front of the room where most
instructors try to use it.
