Playing a Video Tape in an Auditorium

1. Obtain the keys

The equipment cabinet key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in this room. Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. " AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Turn on the classroom technology control system

General purpose classrooms are equipped with a control system panel that eliminates most individual remote controls and power switches. A.V. equipment is located in the equipment cabinet or podium at the front of the room. The control panel is usually located on top of the cabinet or podium.

On Button Press the "ON" button.

The projector will begin warming up. After two to three minutes the projector will be ready for use.

3. Select the VHS input on the control panel

VHS Button DVD and VHS Button Press either the the "VHS" or "DVD/ VHS" button on the control panel.

4. Turn on the closed caption converter, if needed

A close caption converter is located in the cabinet or podium. It may be one of several different models.

Closed Caption Converter Model 1

To activate model 1, press the closed caption power button.

Model 1: The power button is on the right side of the unit.

A red indicator light shows when it is on.

Closed Caption Converter Model 2

To activate model 2, press the triangular closed caption power button.

The closed caption decoder power button is on the left side of the unit.

Closed Caption Converter Model 3

To activate model 3, turn the dial to the CC 1 or CC2 position.

Model 3: The power dial is the only dial on the front.

Captions in the main program language are transmitted on CC1. CC2 is sometimes used for a second language or for non-synchronous captions that carry data intended to augment information carried in the program.

Closed Caption Converter Model 4

To activate model 4, flip the select toggle switch to the CC 1 or CC2 position.

Model 4: Flip it left for CC1 and right for CC2.

No closed caption converter

If the room does not have a close caption converter installed and you need one, please contact the AV desk at 726-6222.

5. Turn on the VCR and play the tape

The VCR is located in the podium/instructor station. Press the "POWER" button. Insert the videotape into the VCR. The tape should play automatically. If it doesn't, press the "PLAY" button.

6. Adjust the sound, if needed

Volume Up Button Press the "VOLUME UP" button to increases the sound.

Volume Down Button Press the "VOLUME DOWN" button to decrease the sound.

Mute Button Press the "MUTE" button to cut the sound. Press it a second time to restore the sound.

7. Remove your tape and turn off the VCR

Press the eject button to remove your tape. Press the power button to turn the VCR off.

8. Turn off the system

Off Button Press the off button to turn off the system.

The projector lamp will turn off. Approximately one second after that the, lamp will be cooled for about a minute. Then the system will be completely shut off.

9. Close and lock the equipment cabinet or podium doors

Close and lock the doors using the equipment key. Please double check to make sure that it is locked.
