Setting up CorporateSync calendar

CorporateTime is a server-based calendar system that is available to all UMD faculty and staff. If you are a CorporateTime user and have a Windows desktop computer, you can use CorporateSync to synchronize your CorporateTime calendar with your iPAQ. With CorporateSync, any meetings, tasks and events you enter on your CorporateTime calendar (via either the web or desktop client) are available on your iPAQ, and vice-versa.

Install CorporateSync

  1. CorporateSync for the iPAQ is an individually licensed product. To request a copy of this software, please send email to Bruce Reeves (breeves@d.umn.edu).

  2. Once you have downloaded the CorporateSync software to your PC, double click on the file to open it.

  3. Select "Install both local and remote files", then follow the prompts.

  4. When the software install is complete, remove the iPAQ from the cradle and perform a normal reset of the device (use the stylus to press the reset button at the bottom right side of the iPAQ - see your iPAQ owner's manual for details).

  5. On the iPAQ, select Start - Settings - System (tab at the bottom) - Corporate Sync. Specify the following settings:
    USER: type in your UMD username (for ex: jdoe1111)

    SERVER: calendar.d.umn.edu

    RANGE tab: Select how far in advance you would like to synchronize information

    EVENTS tab: Check to include CorporateTime events on your iPAQ

    TASKS tab: Check to synchronize your iPAQ Tasks with CorporateTime Tasks

    CONTACTS tab: Check to synchronize your iPAQ Contacts with your CorporateTime address book

  6. Restart your desktop computer.

Synchronize calendars

You can set your iPAQ to synchronize in one of two ways: manually sync only when you select it, or automatically sync everytime you put the iPAQ in the cradle.

Manual synchronization

To manually synchronize your CorporateTime desktop and iPAQ calendars:

  1. Insert your iPAQ into the cradle. Wait for ActiveSync to finish connecting.

  2. RIGHT-click on the CorporateSync icon (it should appear in the lower-left portion of the task bar as shown here).

    Select Synchronize Now from the pop-up menu.

  3. When prompted for a password, type in your CorporateTime password and click OK.

Automatic synchronization

To set your iPAQ to automatically synchronize your CorporateTime desktop and iPAQ calendars:

On your iPAQ:

  1. Select Start - Settings - System (tab at the bottom) - Corporate Sync.
  2. Click on the Password button.
  3. Check the "Save Password" box, enter your Corporate Time password in the New and Confirm fields, then select OK.

Insert your iPAQ into the cradle. Wait for ActiveSync to finish connecting.

  1. RIGHT-click on the CorporateSync icon (it should appear in the lower-left portion of the task bar as shown here).

  2. Select Properties from the pop-up menu.

  3. Check "Automatically perform action upon connection" and "Synchronize the entries," then click OK.

The next time you insert your iPAQ into the cradle, it should automatically run both ActiveSync and CorporateSync.

Troubleshooting

If you get an error message during the synchronization, RIGHT-click on the CorporateSync icon again and select View log... from the pop-up menu to see a detailed description of the error.
