Setting up email

Once you have installed the wireless networking card and drivers, you can use your iPAQ to send and receive email. All iPAQs come with a program called Inbox, which you can configure to access your UMD email account.

The instructions below detail configuration settings for the two operating systems used on the iPAQs. The newest version is Pocket PC 2002, and the other version is just Pocket PC.

CSE Students: Your iPAQ will come with the Inbox preconfigured. To use email, you will need to change the username from GUEST to your UMD Internet/Email username as instructed below:


Configure the Inbox for Pocket PC 2002

  1. Make sure you are within range of a wireless access point.

  2. Select START - Inbox.

  3. Select Tools - Options - New.
  4. Complete the E-mail Setup (2 / 5) screen:

  6. Complete the E-mail Setup (4/ 5) screen:
  7. Complete the E-mail Setup (5 / 5) screen:

Configure the Inbox for Pocket PC

  1. Make sure you are within range of a wireless access point.

  2. Select START - Inbox.

  3. Select Services - New Service....

  4. Complete the Service Name screen:

  5. Complete the IMAP4 Service (1 of 4) screen:

  6. Complete the IMAP4 Service (2 of 4) screen:

  7. Complete the IMAP4 Service (3 of 4) screen:

  8. Complete the IMAP4 Service (4 of 4) screen:

Access your email (both operating systems)

  1. Log on to the wireless network (see Step 4: Log in to the wireless network for details).
  2. Select Start - Inbox.
  3. Select Services - Connect.
  4. When prompted, type in your UMD Internet/email password, then select Go.
  5. When you are finished reading your email, log off the wireless network (see Step 4: Log off the wireless network for details).
