Configuring Windows 2000 computers

Once a modem is installed, you can then configure a connection to UMD.

  1. From the START menu, select Settings - Control Panel.
  2. Select: Network and Dial-Up Connections, then Make New Connection.
  3. Select Dial up to the Internet.
  4. Select 'I want to set up my Internet connection manually'.
  5. Select I connect through a phone line or modem, then fill in the following fields:
    Telephone number: 728 7300 (off campus)
    7831 (on campus)
  6. Uncheck Use area code and dialing rules (unless you are dialing long distance).
  7. Fill in your UMD Internet/email username and password.
  8. On the next screen, provide a name for this connection (i.e., UMD).
  9. On the next screen, select Do not setup a mail account.
  10. On the next screen, click Finish.
