MyFiles for Windows
MyFiles allows you to create personal file storage space on the central system server (commonly known as bulldog). Files you store here are backed up nightly. While there is no fee to create your personal directory, there is a charge for files stored here (see Rates and Fees for details.
This section includes detailed instructions on how to set up and use your MyFiles space.
Off-campus users
You must be on the UMD network to connect to the Samba MyWeb. If you are off-campus, you can use Samba MyWeb as follows:
- Modem pool: Dial in and establish a network connection following your normal procedure, then follow the steps below.
- Cable modem or DSL: Establish a VPN connection to the UMD network connection, then follow the steps below.
Windows XP / 2000
- Select START - Run. Type in \\samba\ and click OK.
- After a few seconds, you should see a listing of folders and printers that starts with ".Aufs0". Scroll down to the folder labeled MyFiles. This is your personal folder on the central system server.
- RIGHT click on this folder and select "Map Network Drive" from the pull-down menu.
- In the Map Network Drive window, for the Drive choose any available letter (such as M).
If you are on a dial-up connection, you probably want to clear the Reconnect at login box; if you are on-campus check this box to ensure that the resource is available each time you restart your computer. Click OK to map the drive.
- If you click on the My Computer icon on the desktop, you should see an icon for MyFiles. You can now save and access files here just as you would on your computer's hard drive.
Troubleshooting
