Configuring your Windows computer for Samba
Before you can access Samba services, you may need to specify a Samba workgroup on your computer. If you are having problems connecting to the Samba services, try these steps.
Configure network services on your computer for Samba
Windows 2000
- Select START - Settings - Network and Dial-up Connections - Local Area Connection.
- Click on the Properties button.

- Verify that Client for Microsoft Networks is listed and checked under "Components checked are used by this connection." If it is not listed, click on the Install button, select Client from the list, and click on the Add button.
- From the left list, select Microsoft. From the right list, select Client for Microsoft Networks. Click OK at the bottom of this screen.
- Click OK to accept. Close the Local Area Connection Properties window when finished.
- Select START - Settings - Control Panel - System.
- Click on the Network Identification tab, then on the Properties button.

- Complete the Identification Changes window as follows:
Workgroup: Samba
Click OK.
Windows XP
- Select START - Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Network (or START - Control Panel - Network).
- Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.
- Click on the Properties button.

- Verify that Client for Microsoft Networks is listed and checked under "Components checked are used by this connection." If it is not listed, click on the Install button, select Client from the list, and click on the Add button.
- From the left list, select Microsoft. From the right list, select Client for Microsoft Networks. Click OK at the bottom of this screen.
- Click OK to accept. Close the Local Area Connection Properties window when finished.
- Select Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - System (or START - Control Panel - System)
- Click on the Computer Name tab, then on the Change button.
- Complete the "Computer Name" window as follows:

Click OK.
