The KDE desktop
SunRays have been a big win for UMD in terms of cost and stability.....but feedback from student surveys indicates that students want an experience more similar to the windows operating system. In an effort to address this concern, ITSS has implemented KDE 3.0.
KDE is a unix desktop system that has the look and feel of windows. All users now log into the KDE 3.0 operating system, which replaces the multiple operating systems used on the SunRays last year.
In addition to having more stbility and added features, it looks and works very much like Windows. Simply login with your UMD username and password at the prompt window shown below.
