DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE?
Does a message with the subject "DONT'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE" appear in your INBOX?
If you are using Pine on ub or bulldog, PC-Pine, Mulberry, or other email programs that use the IMAP protocol, this message is probably in your INBOX but you normally don't see it. The IMAP server puts this message at the top of your INBOX for storing information about it. It's not critical information, but it's useful for IMAP programs and these programs know not to display this message to you.
However, if you do see this message in your INBOX it means:
- You've recently used an IMAP program such as Pine, PC-Pine, or Mulberry to read your mail (which caused the IMAP server to add this message to your INBOX) and...
- You're seeing this message while using some other email program that doesn't know to hide this message from you. You may be using Elm on ub or bulldog or a POP program such as Eudora, POPMail, Netscape, Outlook, etc. (It's also possible to see the "DON'T DELETE" message in Pine or Mulberry, but not very common).
If you normally use Pine, PC-Pine, or Mulberry and happen to see this message while using Elm or some other non-IMAP email program, you should leave the message in your INBOX.
If you see this message when using the email program you regularly use then you may as well delete it - despite what it says. In fact, if you use a POP email program you've likely already deleted it along with all the other messages in your INBOX as your POP program downloaded your mail to your computer. The copy of this message that's in the mailbox on your hard disk serves no purpose, so just delete it.
