Graduate Student Accounts
Graduate students who are registered for classes keep their regular student account.
Graduate students who are not registering for classes are no longer paying the per-credit Basic Internet/Access fee, which pays for the student account. Therefore, graduate students who are not registered for classes must select one of the following three options for email:
- Request a thesis account.
Graduate students who have finished their course work and are working on a thesis can can get a thesis account ($75 per year for a grant of up to $1000 of computing). For information about computing charges see ITSS Rates and Fees. Contact Spring Billiar, sbilliar, 726-8843, for application forms. Thesis accounts cannot have the same user name as student accounts, but files can be moved from one account to the other by contacting ITSS.
- Request an Alumni account.
Graduate students can apply for an Alumni account and pay monthly charges for their computer usage. For details, see Alumni Accounts.
- Request a one-semester extension to their student account.
Any unregistered student, graduate or undergraduate, who needs access for one semester can keep their student account open for a cost of $60 for the semester ($60 is approximately what a full time undergraduate student pays for email access though regular fees). Students can pay by check or by purchasing a lab access card at the Computer Corner. The check or card must be brought to Gordee (MWAH 155), Spring (MWAH 157), or the ITSS Departmental office (MWAH 176). The user name MUST be written on the card or check. Those who are off campus can mail a $60 check made out to "University of Minnesota" to:
