Instructions for setting up UMD Email
Quick Setup (IMAP email)
Use these basic settings for any email client.
Incoming mail
- Server/account type
- IMAP
- Incoming mail server
- imap.d.umn.edu
- security (encryption)
- SSL Port:993
- User name and password
- Your University Internet ID and password
- Authentication method
- Password
- Mail check interval
- 15 minutes or longer
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
- Server / host
- smtp.d.umn.edu
- Security (encryption)
- SSL / TLS (STARTTLS) Port: 587
- Alternate: SSL Port: 465
- User name and password
- Same as for incoming mail
- Authentication method
- Password
ITSS supports several email clients, as well as our current server-based UMD Webmail. However, almost any email program, if properly configured, should allow you to work with your UMD email.

If you prefer to configure a POP client, you will need to first Set your IMAP/POP preference.
