Email configuration settings
ITSS supports a number of email clients, including Outlook, Thunderbird, and OSX's Mail.app, as well as server-based UMD Webmail. However, almost any email program, if properly configured, should allow you to work with your UMD email.
While it's not possible for ITSS to be familiar with every email program, we try to provide configuration instructions for the most common programs. Detailed instructions for configuring secure email are available for the following clients:
| Windows | Macintosh |
|---|---|
| No longer supported: Mozilla/Netscape, Outlook Express, Eudora 7 for Windows, Eudora 6 for OSX. | |
If you need to configure an email program for which we don't provide support or configuration instructions, below are the basic settings for any email program.
| Protocol | Setting |
|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming mail server) | imap.d.umn.edu You must enable secure settings - TLS or SSL |
| POP (incoming mail server - not recommended but useful in some circumstances) | pop.d.umn.edu You must enable secure settings - TLS or SSL You must also set your email protol preference to "IMAP or POP" via this web page: Email Protocol Preference |
| SMTP (outgoing mail) server | smtp.d.umn.edu
You must enable secure settings - TLS or SSL Charter Cable Modem users also need to use port 587 for the SMTP (outgoing) email setting |
