ITSS offers two access levels to the computer labs, Basic Access and Full Access.
Basic Access computers are available for use by all currently enrolled UMD students, staff, and faculty. Software is limited, generally used for Microsoft Office and web browsing.
Full Access computers are only available to students who have paid the $71.75 access fee, which is automatically billed to students who are taking a class in one of the ITSS computer labs.
Students can also purchase Full Access from the UMD Bookstore for $71.75 for the semester, $20 for two weeks, or $6 for the day. Access cards must be brought to the TechCenter in Kirby Plaza 165 to activate your full access.
To see which classes require Full Access, view the Full Access Class List.
To gain lab access for the entire summer (Pre-Session, Summer Session I, and Summer Session II) Full Lab Access may be purchased for an additional $71.75.
During break weeks, lab access is available to those who have paid the lab fee; however, lab availablity is limited. Students may use the machines in the library, when available.
Students whose course work requirements extend beyond the end of a semester they were officially enrolled in can extend their basic network and Full Lab Access into the next semester by paying a $71.75 fee (also see the per day/week lab access rules).
UMD students, participants in academic programs held at UMD, former UMD students who were enrolled the previous semester, and students who are currently enrolled on other campuses of the University of Minnesota can purchase one day lab access passes for $6 per day. Purchase the pass at the cashier's window in Darland or at the Computer Corner store in Kirby and bring the pass with you to the ITSS TechCenter, in KPlz 165, where you will be given a guest username and password for that day.

Faculty and TAs who teach a course that meets in one of the Full Access computer labs may use that lab without charge to test software features and to prepare for class lessons and exercises. When new software is installed (usually between semesters), the faculty members who will be using the software will be asked to test it.
Courses (for credit):
Instructors can reserve designated teaching labs by contacting UMD Classroom Scheduling. If a course (for credit) requires three or more lab reservations during the semester, the students in that course are required to pay the Full Access fee. No fee is charged when a course (for credit) meets in a computer lab only once or twice per semester. Please email rooms@d.umn.edu for reservations.
Other Groups:
Special arrangements can be made for other groups to use the labs during times when the labs are closed. This includes some evenings, weekends, and semester breaks as availability allows. Please send an email to labmanager@d.umn.edu for more information or to request a reservation in one of the labs.
Faculty can obtain accounts and folders to put up materials on the lab servers for their classes. Faculty do not have access to the software on the lab server from their office accounts. Please send an email to labmanager@d.umn.edu for more information.
Faculty members can request to have software which was purchased by their departments put up on the lab servers provided that:
