Computer Lab Consultant

Job Prerequisites

Required

  • Good communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Prompt and reliable work habits
  • Experience with Windows XP and/or Mac OSX
  • Experience with: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Class load: minimum of 6 credits per quarter
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Available to work 6 or more hours per week

Desired

  • Customer service experience
  • Experience with applications listed on the ITSS Lab Software Listing page.
    Specifically: Macromedia Products (Dreamweaver, Flash), HTML, Adobe applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat), InDesign, Fetch, FTP, and SPSS.
  • Familiarity with UMD computer labs

 

Job Duties

Consulting in Computer Labs for ITSS:

  • answering basic software and hardware questions
  • reporting complicated software and hardware questions to staff
  • trouble-shooting and solving basic software and hardware problems
  • reporting complicated hardware and software problems to staff
  • monitoring software and hardware use

Maintaining the Computer Lab Environment

  • understanding the security system
  • monitoring lab equipment
  • cleaning lab equipment and furniture
  • identifying and requesting hardware and facility maintenance

Representing ITSS to UMD Students, Faculty, and Staff:

  • understanding ITSS policies and procedures
  • referring customers to the appropriate documentation or staff member
  • representing ITSS and the University of Minnesota
  • completing lab-access database operations and paperwork
