Q: What percentage of students on this campus have full-time use of personal computers? A: One-hundred percent of students at UMD have access to basic-access computers. Many of these are in the Library, which is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to midnight. See the Library web site for a complete description of Library hours.
Q: What is the ratio of public access computers to undergraduate enrollment? A: There is one basic-access computer for every 26 undergraduate students at UMD. If we also include full-access labs in our computation, there is one full or basic-access computer for every 13 undergraduate students at UMD.
Q: What percentage of students use e-mail and other software applications on a regular basis?

A: All UMD students have an email account. During spring 2000, 95 percent of all students used their accounts at least once. Effective fall 2001, email was declared the official communication vehicle between the University and students.

Instructors can set up class email aliases through an automated process for any course. Core courses such as Composition 1120 require most freshman students to learn to use email, internet software, and computer word processing. Students will continue to have internet and email access for the remainder of their academic careers at UMD.

Q: Does the campus allow personal student Web pages? A: All UMD students can post a personal web page. Information about how to make a web page can be found at the Web Development website. Students are encouraged to advertise their personal web site in their directory listing.
Q: Is contact information for students, faculty, and staff readily accessible electronically? A: The UMD directory is online and searchable: University of Minnesota Directory.
Q: Is there a campus code of behavior for use of computing resources? A: Policies regarding appropriate use of UMD computing resources are posted online. See Rules for Computer Use and Policy on the Appropriate Use of Information Technology.
Q: What social activities and services are available over the Web? A: A variety of services and activities are posted on the UMD website. Recreational sports, outdoor activities, student organizations, dining services, housing services, and many more resources are posted on the Student Handbook website.
Q: Are there Web sites for student organizations and clubs, and are these linked to the campus home page? A: Student organizations are posted online and accessible from the UMD home page. Further information about student organizations can be found at the Student Handbook website.
