- Why do I need to register my computer?
- The goal of NetReg is to restrict network access to authorized users to increase overall network security.
- Do I need to register every time I use the computer?
- No. For wired connections, you need to register your computer once each year. You may need to re-register if your computer is off the network for an extended period (on vacation or leave) or if you move to a new office.
- For wireless connections, you need to register your computer once every 90 days.
- How do I register my computer?
- To connect your computer to the UMD network over a wired or wireless connection, simply open a web browser (Firefox is preferred), and follow the onscreen instructions to register the computer using your University Internet ID.

- When I try to access the NetReg registration web page, I get the error message "Page not found".
- This may be a browser problem. Firefox is the preferred browser. See: Browser troubleshooting tips (Windows) or Browser troubleshooting tips (Mac)
- I'm moving to a new office - do I need to register again?
- If you move to a new office in the same building, you should have full network access without registering again. If you move to a new office in a different building, you may need to register your new connection.
- I'm changing computers - do I need to register again?
- If you get a new computer, you will need to register it to get full network access. If you use multiple computers on the network (for example, a desktop and a laptop), you will need to register each computer.

- You may need to clear your browser cache.

- When I run WINIPCFG or IPCONFIG, I get an IP address other than 131.212.x.x.
